The Golden State Warriors' training camp is rolling into Day 2, and head coach Steve Kerr has already spilled some beans on the starting lineup for the new season. Kerr made it clear: only two spots in the starting five are locked in, while the remaining three will be decided through competition in camp. At the same time, Kerr is pushing the two veteran stars—Stephen Curry and Draymond Green—to break out of their comfort zones and adapt to a brand-new offensive system. He admitted that the duo looked "totally lost" on the floor at times.

Curry and Green are locked into the starting lineup; the other three spots are wide open for grabs.

When the media asked about the starting lineup plans for the new season, Kerr flat out said that besides Curry and Green—two core veterans who've played together for years—the other three spots are completely up for grabs. "Yeah, that's right. Nothing's set in stone yet," Kerr said in an interview. Those three positions will be determined by how players perform in camp and even in the early part of the season.

What makes the competition even more intense? Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody are both sidelined at the start of the season due to injury rehab. That means whoever stands out in camp could end up carrying a heavy load early on—even starting for several months. Kerr specifically called out two young guns: Brandin Podziemski and Gui Santos, stressing that they're both in the mix for starting roles.

Pushing for a new system, stepping out of the comfort zone, and yeah, the two stars were totally lost at first.

Beyond the lineup puzzle, the Warriors are also shaking things up on offense. In the first few days of camp, Kerr has been drilling a new concept, asking Curry and Green to get used to different spacing and cutting patterns. "Different spacing, different cuts. They're used to the old ways, but now we're asking them to try something new," Kerr said with a laugh. "These two guys—they were totally lost a few times today."

Kerr isn't worried, though. He sees it as part of the process of building new habits. "I told Draymond, 'Don't worry. The first few days of camp, when you start feeling out new stuff, this is exactly how it's supposed to look.' Over the summer, when we ran these plays with the young guys in summer league, they had the same reaction—confused for the first few days. That's what camp is about. You grind until the plays become second nature."

Defensive mastermind Frank Vogel joins the staff, and Podziemski gets the green light to fire away.

On the defensive end, the Warriors brought in former NBA head coach Frank Vogel this summer as the lead assistant, putting him in charge of the defense. Kerr praised Vogel for bringing discipline and structure to the team, installing systems for transition defense and rebounding. He said he feels confident about the defense heading into the new season.

Among the young players, fourth-year guard Brandin Podziemski has shown serious ambition. He told the media during media day that he wants to increase his three-point volume this season (he averaged 5.0 three-point attempts per game last year). Kerr gave him full support: "Brandin used to hesitate and pass up open threes early in his career. We want him to shoot it without thinking twice." With the coaching staff's green light, Podziemski is definitely in a strong position in the battle for one of those three starting spots.
